Opticians Blog: Peter's Vision
I am Peter, Principal Optometrist at Turners Opticians, a third generation family practice. I also work part time as a Senior Optometrist at the Bristol Eye Hospital which has greatly increased my knowledge and clinical practice - for our patients benefit. I share both my grandfather Harold & father Philip’s passion for thorough eye care which started in 1939. Since joining the practice in 1999 a lot has changed! Our team has grown and now includes four Optometrists, a Qualified Dispensing Optician, Eye Care Team and Office Team. My vision is thorough eye care for all our patients. As my grandfather Harold taught my father Philip and I, care for each patient as a special individual. I did realise that, although we talk to our patients and customers daily, and many had such lovely positive things to say about us we had not undertaken a patient satisfaction questionnaire. On the back of this I launched a survey. I was truly amazed at the results. The stand out responses that became the overriding theme of the answers was the trust our patients have in us and just how delighted they are with our service and quality. I was so flattered by the results that I decided to change our Turners Opticians logo wording from ‘since 1939’ to ‘trusted since 1939’. I have gained additional Hospital level qualifications in detecting and treating Glaucoma as well as diagnosing and treating Dry or Watery eye conditions and Blepharitis. Fellow Optometrist Ginny and I are on an MSc course to better detect and understand damage to the back of the eye from diabetes or macula degeneration, this is further enhancing eye care for our patients. As a spectacle wearer myself I understand the importance of not only seeing clearly but also looking the part in glasses. Our latest designs include collections from the Italian fashion houses of RayBan, Calvin Klein and Armani which sit along side the more boutique Coco Mint and the world renown Polo Ralph Lauren. Clinically we have increased the length of our eye care appointments up to 45 minutes to allow time to listen and understand the individual needs of our patients, thoroughly check the health of both the front and back of patients eyes and included our sophisticated 3D eye scans and detailed peripheral vision assessments. Extended eye exam appointments, available to both NHS and private patients, can be booked by calling the practice, popping in to see our friendly team or via our website www.turnersopticians.co.uk. We hope to see you soon!
