“At last! That's why my daughter can't read properly”
Ailee recently came to see Turners Opticians for her first sight test. Her Mum told Peter their story.
Ailee’s Mum had been concerned for a while about Ailee’s reading and wondered if she was dyslexic. Her Mum recounts “it was just painful listening to Ailee read. She is a bright girl, but because my concerns were increasing I started looking on the internet for answers”.
Her Mum read all about dyslexia and the symptoms children report. She asked Ailee what she saw when reading, her reply broke her Mum’s heart “the words are blurry & shimmery Mummy, it makes my brain just want to close my eyes but if I do I then keep loosing my place”.
“the words are blurry & shimmery Mummy”
Aimee’s Mum read Kara Torrington’s story and thought coloured glasses or a coloured overlay may help. An Optician friend recommended taking Ailee to see Peter Turner as he is a children’s reading specialist Optometrist.
Peter thoroughly examined Ailee’s eyes and having performed an extended sight test including specialist reading vision assessment listened to Ailee read. He diagnosed binocular vision instability and prescribed Ailee her first pair of glasses.
“oh so that is what every one else sees”
Ailee came to collect her glasses with her Dad. He was amazed to hear Ailee exclaim “oh so that is what every one else sees” when she put on her first glasses. Since her visit to Turners Opticians Ailee’s reading has improved in leaps and bounds. Her Mum has been recommending every parent take all their school age children for a thorough sight test.
The Optometrist’s at Turners Opticians are all parents of young children. They have a passion for giving each and every patient the best ‘crystal clear’ vision at every opportunity.
All enquiries and referrals are welcome. Turners Opticians offer sight testing to children free under the NHS.
