Precise Colour Tinting
&
Coloured Overlays

The use of colour to aid reading is well known.  Often children & young people have tried a coloured sheet in school and found it helps their reading or learning difficulties.  But what next?

We have been prescribing precise coloured tints for over 30 years.  Our current Senior Optometrist Peter remembers two of his classmates wearing tinted glasses in lessons that his father Philip had prescribed for them!

Below you can read a list of signs and symptoms.  If you answer yes to one or more you may have vision stress and benefit from a specialist assessment with us.
Symptoms to look out for include:
  • Movement of print
  • Blurring of print
  • Light-sensitivity
  • Letters changing shape or size
  • Patterns running through the text
  • Illusions of colour surrounding letters or words
Signs to watch for include:
  • Using a finger as a marker
  • Skipping words and lines
  • Rubbing eyes and excessive blinking
  • Low self- esteem

An assessment with us is so much more than just looking through a few coloured overlays.  We consider your individual visual needs, listen to any concerns you have, review your binocular vision status and combine this with our sophisticated precise coloured lens assessment to ensure you receive optimal results.

There is good research that suggests that around 90% of patients who report the above signs or symptoms, & find a colour helpful, probably have an underlying binocular vision problem.  That is to say that often their eyes are not comfortable focusing, tracking or working together.  Peter calls this vision stress.

We are very happy to see new patients, in fact many of our patients are referred to us by friends, teachers or just find us via a search engine!

Peter leads our specialist clinics and has been helping his patients experience clear and comfortable vision for over 20 years.

If you choose a precise coloured lens assessment, Peter & his team will be happy to look after you.  This combined with the results of your binocular vision assessment lets us provide you the clearest vision result.

Your assessment will last around 30-45 minutes and the results will be demonstrated to you.  We can provide precise tinted glasses, overlays/tinted reading rulers or advise on the use of coloured paper and computer screen tinting.
