Opticians Blog no.14: Seeing Friends – Old & New

This month saw the return of our bi-annual trip north to the NEC & our biggest professional
calendar event - Optrafair!

With all my patients seen, I headed straight from my regular Saturday clinic to Parkway station. As
a keen cyclist, and one not often far out of the sight of our glorious home city it is a rare treat to
travel and relax at the same time. A weekend away from my young family is always a bit of a
wrench, the prospect of meeting new product suppliers, testing the latest tech and catching up with
old friends over a quiet drink is a great draw though.

At Turners Opticians we take caring for our patient’s vision and eye health very seriously, part of
this commitment is investing in the best equipment as well as regular training updates for our great
eye care team. One of the nice findings from this trade show was that although some of the
packaging has changed, the technology we use every day at Turners is keeping us at the cutting
edge of eye care in Bristol. Our extended eye exam plus, including sophisticated 3D eye scans
and detailed peripheral vision testing, is helping each week to provide our patients the thorough
and in-depth eye care they deserve.

I was quite simply stunned by some of the exciting new frame collections on display this year.
From exquisite ladies styles, inspired by Liberty Fashion House print, through the new Max Factor
collection (yes, you can now fully co-ordinate your glasses with your eye makeup!) to the soon to
be released high performance, ultra-clear vision sports glasses from Adidas us active types have
been waiting for!

Watch this space (and our website) for details of the arrival of these new glasses. If you are like
me, and often find choosing new glasses a little daunting, fear not. From these new collections I
found no less than six frames I just loved! As a dedicated husband, I have learnt that it is always
good practice to choose a few new styles for my wife Jo as well. She has about 20 to choose from
so we will both be modelling a new look very soon!

A pleasing find was a new digital lens for glasses - aimed at easing the effort more of us are
putting into our busy live!s. These lenses help to relieve eye strain before it starts and let us see
our tech (tablets, phones, computers, smart watches... the list goes on) clearly and much more
comfortably. They also help to soften the effort required to look close up for long periods providing
not only clear, but also comfortable vision all day long. I cannot wait to try these new lenses in the
next few weeks.

After the craziness of meeting so many new people and viewing many exciting new frames and
lenses it was a relief to escape for a long overdue catchup with friends and a quiet drink. It was
such a treat to chat to friends I first met over 20 years ago, and find that although we see much
less of each other these days our friendship remains as strong as ever.

The overriding joy of the weekend away came from spending time with the people I got to see.
From making new friends to affirming existing friendships, all was done with the goal of continuing
our commitment to outstanding eye care for our patients - many of whom have also become
friends.

I hope to see you soon!
